What can
you make?
In a nutshell,
if you can imagine it, Dave can build it. He has specialized in
custom Aspen furniture for many years and has worked on a number
of fun projects ranging from custom furniture found in prestigious
hotels, to rustic farm signs, to simple planter boxes. However,
because he is a one-man operation there is a limit to the number
of pieces that can be made each year. To discuss options and production
times, feel free to call Dave personally at 1 (403) 626-3089.
How do you ship your furniture?
Although
the beds and swings are difficult to package and ship due to the
size, some have been shipped as far away as Holland and Germany.
These shipments were arranged by the buyer. Personal pickup of items
is the preferred and most cost effective option for you, the buyer,
but we can deliver your furniture at a reasonable cost to the Western
United States and Western Canada. Please feel free to call us for
information at 1 (403) 626-3089.
How is your furniture assembled?
Although each
item is assembled a little differently, most joints are made with
1 ½ or 2 inch dowels which are glued into place with Weld Bond glue
then a 3 ½ inch screw is run in on an angle to insure that the joint
does not move. On pieces that may need to be taken apart for moving
such as a bed, the mortise and tenon joint is secured with a 6 inch
by ½ inch lag bolt which is deep set. Plugs are provided to hide
the bolt and hole for a clean finished look.
How is
your furniture finished?
Swings and
all outside furniture are finished with clear Danish Oil. It is
painted on with a paintbrush, and each piece is given three to four
coats depending on how it is absorbed. Inside furniture is finished
with two to three coats of Benjamin Moore polyurethane, which brings
out the beautiful color of the wood. The
type of finish can be low lustre, semi-gloss, or high-gloss according
to the desire of the buyer.
How do
I take care of my furniture to extend its life?
The swings,
chairs and tables need to be oiled twice a year - spring and fall
- if they are left out in the weather. Natural clear oil must be
used to keep the original color. You do not need to sand or prepare
the wood in any way; just paint over what's there. It only takes
20 to 30 minutes as the oil is painted on with a large paintbrush
and will soak into the surfaces that are getting dry. (If the swing
is sitting on a deck put a drop cloth under it to catch the drips.)
If you leave the item without oil it will eventually turn grey like
any wood that is left out, but if it is maintained it will retain
it's color and beauty for many years.
What are
your payment options?
Due
to the amount of time, effort, and resources involved, we ask for
a 50% deposit upon placing your order, with the balance due on delivery
or prior to shipping if item is shipped. We accept certified checks
and money orders.
